The loss of water vapour from plants to the atmosphere.
The loss of water vapour from plants to the atmosphere. Transpiration occurs mainly from leaves. The surface of the leaf is covered in tiny holes called stomata through which the water vapour escapes. Water lost in this way creates a suction effect, helping move water up from the roots against gravity.
