Science glossary film: Reflection

The change in direction of a waveform at the boundary between two different media, so the wave returns to the medium in which it started. We are most familiar with light reflections, in mirrors, glass and water; but the same behaviour is shown by radio waves, sound, producing echoes, and even compression waves from earthquakes.
