Science glossary film: Dominant allele

The version of a particular gene that takes precedence over other variants, being expressed even if only one copy is present. The classic example is human eye colour, where the brown allele is dominant over the blue allele. If a child inherits the brown eye colour allele from one parent and the blue version from the other, they will have brown eyes.
